Reasons to Become a Member of CLPO

Owning and or living on a lakefront property has many advantages. Not only will you be able to wake up next to an idyllic and beautiful nature scene, but you can enjoy all kind of activities on the water. But this doesn't happen on its own, actions must be taken to maintain a beautiful lake.

CLPO works to preserve, protect and defend the quality, safety and natural beauty of Clearwater, Otter & Grass Lake. Your annual membership dues are essential, as they support the Association’s activities that will help keep our lake a beautiful jewel for generations to come.

Here are some of the things we do for the lake and for the residents:

1. CLPO works to help identify threats of aquatic invasive species (AIS).

2. We work with local and state authorities to secure funding to combat AIS and other lake improvements.

3. We negotiate contracts to hire professionals in the treatment of milfoil. In past years this was done by physical labor of lake association residents.

4. We quarantined a small portion of the lake where starry stonewort was found, and we continue to survey and treat that area with a goal of eradication.

5. We treat the Narrows with Copper Sulfate as a benefit to all who use the Sand Bar during the 4th of July weekend.

6. We are a liaison between State and County COLAs (Coalition of Lake Associations) as we all share information and expertise in lake management.

7. We are a contact point for residents with lake issues.

8. We hold an Annual Meeting and bring in speakers to discuss current lake issues to inform residents of what's going on and why.

9. We work to keep proper signage at all public and private accesses reminding boaters to properly take care of their boats before and after they visit the lake.

10. We assist in bog management and can help our members follow correct and legal procedures to address floating bogs.

11. We publish newsletters to keep you informed about the lake.

12. We work with both Stearns and Wright Counties to conduct ramp monitoring and public education regarding AIS.

13. We attend conferences, meetings, webinars, and conference calls to educate ourselves on issues like AIS, issues MN’s Lakes are facing today and in the future, and how Land Management impacts our lakes.
