Volunteer Your Skills!

Do you have Time and Talent?

Yes you do, and we could use the help!

The CLPO is operated entirely by volunteers. These folks are your neighbors and they volunteer because they care about the lake and our immediate environment. They want to make a positive impact on their lives and in doing so, your lives as well.

So, what could you do as a volunteer? As a start, we have a newsletter and someone needs to write it. We have an editor but they can use some help.

Do you have an idea or simply something to say about the lake? Can you write? Click below and thanks!

One of the major events of the year is the CLPO Annual Picnic. Have you attended our Annual Picnics

CLPO picnics were held at several locations over the years. For years we were hosted by the Trumans at the point on the sand bar. We moved to the park in Annandale for a few years. For the past two years we've been graciously hosted by the The Boathouse at Tween Lakes at the east end of the lake.

Here are a few photos from years past up to recent. It's always good when neighbors gather for good food and pleasant conversation. "How's the fishing on your side of the lake?" "The lake is down. We need the rain!" "Did you see the loon chicks near the Narrows?"

Every one of these events happened because of the work of volunteers who offered a few hours of their time to make it happen for all. And, they all had fun meeting their neighbors.

If you have the time and the interest please volunteer. Let us know - click below!

The CLPO spends a substantial amount of time and money addressing Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). This is our major activity and we do it with volunteers.

The lake has had Eurasian Watermilfoil (we just call it 'milfoil') for several decades. Working with practitioners at the Clearwater River Watershed District the CLPO for many years treated milfoil using volunteers. Then, in 2016 following a cost comparison we switched to hiring professional applicators. The work of our volunteers now includes contracting with the firms, informing the public, and making all local arrangements necessary to get it done.

The lake also has starry stonewort, curlyleaf pondweed, zebra mussels and mystery snails. We are addressing the stonewort and the pondweed to the extent allowed by law. There are no practical treatments for zebra mussels and mystery snails but research continues.

The CLPO has a team of volunteer 'rakers' who on a schedule go by water to assigned ramps, public and private, and toss double headed rake heads on long ropes. The rakes are tossed near the ramps to look for any AIS, especially starry stonewort. The CLPO also hires out professional divers a few times a season to delineate the underwater vegetation, and to search for AIS.  The CLPO manages boat inspections at the public ramps.

A compilation of nine images showing people or situations showing AIS in nature.
A compilation of five images showing speakers and the audiences from different CLPO Annual Meetings.

The CLPO also holds an Annual Meeting to inform residents of actions taken.

Speakers' backgrounds vary but are all focused on what's happening with respect to the lake. Typical topics are reports of the underwater delineation surveys and other surveys, AIS treatment approach and methods, and other special speakers.
